Toronto, March 29, 2016 - Companies that supplement their HR with a turnkey shared HR solution can expect to see lower employee turnover and significant cost-savings, almost immediately, reveals a commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of ADP.
The study, commissioned by ADP, examined the time savings and resulting financial benefit of a composite firm, representing a typical ADP Workforce Now® Comprehensive Services client. Over a three-year period, the composite company saw net cost reductions of more than $C 760,000, through more than 4,000 hours of HR time saved over three years.
“We were growing and we couldn’t support that growth with the (HR) people we had in place, so we were trying to find a way to reduce paper and avoid hiring additional staff. Comprehensive Services saves us time, which we didn’t have, and it saves us staff which we didn’t have”, noted the HR, payroll, and accounts payable coordinator.
The study revealed that, with more time to focus on talent initiatives such as recruitment, online courses, improved professional development, and employee engagement, the HR team in the composite firm reduced costly turnover rates by five percent in the first year, 15 percent in the second year and 20 percent by Year Three. Further reductions are expected as the impacts of improved recruiting are realized.
“We are really pleased to see the immediate and beneficial impact ADP’s service can deliver to these growing firms,” said Virginia Brailey, Vice President of Marketing and Strategy at ADP Canada. “When HR teams have the expertise and tools to help them manage the changing needs of the workforce, they are better able to focus on supporting the strategic needs of the business. From improved recruiting to better training and strategic insights, these HR teams are giving their organizations a competitive edge by focusing on talent.
Benefits of HR shared services
The role of HR has shifted in the past decade from a support function to a strategic partner that seeks to balance the needs of the business with the needs of the employees. In rapidly growing companies, HR teams struggle to keep pace, creating an imbalance that can adversely affect employee engagement, retention and corporate performance.
In a recent ADP-Environics Study, Canadian HR professionals said they are challenged by increasing workloads and, in some cases, uncertainty about their organization’s ability to adapt quickly to a changing workforce.
Prior to implementing ADP Workforce Now Comprehensive Services, each of the three organizations examined by Forrester were challenged by the increasing time required for administrative tasks as their companies grew, and felt unable to work at the strategic level their organizations required.
After working with ADP’s shared HR services, the organizations benefited from improved automation and reporting, along with guidance and support from a relationship manager and on-demand subject matter experts. “Today’s workforce is complex, dynamic and multi-generational, yet HR professionals are often finding themselves confronting 21st Century challenges with 20th Century tools,” Brailey noted. “A shared service model lets HR teams focus on their employer brand and employee engagement, which are force multipliers for delivering better overall corporate performance.”
While implementing an outsourced solution is complex, it delivers results very quickly: Year One net benefits for the composite company were more than $C 235,000 through1,100 fewer hours of HR staff time spent on administrative and transactional work.
