Small Business Grant
Contest Winner

Quinte Ballet School of Canada is 6th winner of $10,000 in ADP Canada 2015 Small Business Grant Contest

Contest receives rave reviews after successful third year

Toronto, Tuesday, July 28, 2015 - Quinte Ballet School of Canada - a dance studio dedicated to providing an inspiring environment for talented youth in Belleville, Ontario is the sixth and final winner of $10,000 through the ADP Canada’s 2015 Small Business Grant Contest.

Quinte Ballet School of Canada offers an innovative and versatile dance curriculum, grounded in classical ballet technique. The school provides an inspiring, challenging and supportive environment that nurtures talented young people with the strong characteristics needed to be leaders not only in the dance industry, but also in the community at large. The graduates of the program often go on to perform in major Canadian and international dance companies.

“We are absolutely over the moon. I can’t begin to tell you how excited we all are right now,” said Marilyn Lawrie, Executive Director, Quinte Ballet School of Canada. “The winnings from the ADP Small Business Grant will help us hire additional guest instructors and hopefully encourage more young men to pursue a career in dance.”

In their winning entry, Ms. Lawrie describes the struggle to attract boys to study at the school without being able to offer bursaries towards their tuition fees as many other dance institutions do. The Quinte Ballet School of Canada would love nothing more than to dispel the myth that the art of ballet is only for women. The money will also help the school provide more live accompaniment for their classes and allow them to invest in brand new costumes.

“It’s inspiring to see small businesses like Quinte Ballet School of Canada using the grant money to make such a positive impact in their community,” said Virginia Brailey, Vice President, Marketing and Strategy, ADP Canada. “We are pleased the grant will help the school continue expanding their services, so more young dancers can pursue their dreams.”

Six small businesses from five provinces across the country, one message for ADP

First created in 2012 by ADP®, a leading global provider of Human Resources services and systems, the Small Business Grant Contest awards six entrepreneurs $10,000 cash. Owners and operators of small businesses with 1-99 employees are encouraged to visit to share their business story and describe what they would do with $10,000.

The entire country was well represented in this year’s ADP Small Business Grant Contest — winners from five provinces (B.C., Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador) were each awarded $10,000 to help grow their organizations. Many of the winners of this year’s contest have already started to put the money to good use.

“This grant now allows us to put our best foot forward and ensures we will have another safe, productive season clearing remote beaches on Vancouver Island’s West Coast,” said Karen G. Wristen, Executive Director, Living Oceans Society, the February voting period winner.

This year’s list of ADP grant winners is as follows:

“Winning the ADP Small Business Grant gives us working capital to make small, but important changes to our restaurant,” said Michelle LeBlanc, Owner of Chinched Bistro. “We could not be happier to have been selected for the grant.”

“It is extremely moving to see the impact this award has had on the winners. From creating jobs to cleaning up debris in remote areas along the Pacific Coast, to empowering youth, this award is a reminder that small businesses truly move our communities forward, and a small investment can make a really big difference,” Brailey said.

The ADP Small Business Grant Contest will be open for entries starting in October of 2015. For more information, including profiles of past winners, full contest rules and conditions, and to stay tuned for details on how to enter the 2016 grant program, please visit:
