ADP Aligns with LexisNexis to Provide Payroll Solution to Law Firms

Toronto, October 4th, 2007 — ADP, Canada’s largest provider of outsourced employer services, and LexisNexis, a leading provider of information and services solutions, have announced a strategic alignment to offer law firms an enhanced version of LexisNexis’s comprehensive back office solution. The new product version, Lexis® Back Office powered by PCLaw™, provides integrated billing, accounting and management systems, including access to ADP’s fully hosted, Web-based payroll solution, pay@work, to law firms across Canada.

“Most law firms aren’t created because the partners want to spend time on office administration, yet many find themselves burdened by time consuming tasks like payroll,” said Rod Dobson, president of ADP Canada. “ADP’s payroll expertise combined with LexisNexis’s enhanced business management solution means law firms can confidently focus on their clients, while we look after the back office details.”

LexisNexis clients, including more than 8,000 law firms in Canada that use PCLaw, will benefit from a special pricing structure on ADP’s pay@work product, a hosted solution that directly interfaces to PCLaw's general ledger.

According to a 2006 Environics Research study commissioned by ADP Canada, small businesses spend an average of 11.7 hours per employee each year on payroll processing, a significant burden on consultancies like law practices, that need to limit non-billable time.

Key benefits for customers of ADP’s pay@work include:

  • The freedom to focus on growth: employee resources stay committed to core competencies that build the business.
  • Speed and accuracy: payroll data can be inputted via the Internet and previews made available in as little as 30 minutes.
  • Offer employees direct deposit of pay.
  • Controlled technology costs: seamless upgrades from ADP and no need to purchase costly hardware or software or long-term contracts.
  • Streamlined data management: extensive reporting options, from standard to custom reports.
  • Peace-of-mind: up-to-date government legislation, access to historical data online and multiple levels of security.
  • Robust features: pension plan tracking, year-end tax forms and reports, automatic remittances to government and outside vendors and electronic Records of Employment, among others.

“The philosophy behind Lexis Back Office powered by PCLaw is that law firms want to focus on their core competency and leave business administration to qualified experts like LexisNexis and ADP,” said Alan Tuback, product manager of Back Office Products for LexisNexis. “In developing our enhanced solution for law firms, we’ve taken a similar approach by tapping ADP’s unparalleled leadership in payroll processing.”
